an ode to summer

 

this was the first summer in our new home

where we hosted jackson’s birthday party

where we watched a meteor shower on the trampoline

where memories were made

this was the summer—

i binged all 7 seasons of the closer 

we watched the new spiderman in theaters

and loved the boroughs series,

even though it was cancelled after 1 season

this was the summer—

of kiwis + bean salads + cold brew

when we were afraid to eat lettuce 

of daily walks in the neighborhood 

and walking in the mall when the temps were atrocious

this was the summer—

i turned 40

went back to brunette

started a healthier lifestyle

walked 10k steps a day

this was the summer—

we let go of church hurt

over
and
over
and

over

because it’s a process

this was the summer—

of record-breaking temps

of journaling + creativity
i actually enjoyed the summer season
of sprinkles in my iced coffee
we celebrated 250 years of the USA
of dude perfect in OKC
i wore jelly sandals daily

this was the summer i let go of all the things i thought i knew about faith + The Church + how our family fits into it all and let Jesus put the pieces back together.
