lessons from a matching game

i see him coming my way
the look on his face hints at the question he’s about to ask
“can we play my game, mommy?”

sure, buddy.

i’m tired. (#abolishDST)
but i will always spare ten minutes with my shaggy-haired boy.

i have never “let” him win.
i want him to learn a valuable life lesson-
you win some, you lose some
even if it’s from a matching game

nevertheless-
he still beats me almost every night
on the rare occasion i actually win,
he cheers me on with the same excited fervor-
“daddy, guess what?! mommy won!”

and there he goes again-
giving me a life lesson in return

this time- valuable wisdom on the art of losing well
